The index shows which countries are most and least attractive to develop the travel and tourism

Countries are rated on a scale from 1 to 7, where 7 is the best and 1 the worst. The index is based on three indicators; national regulation, infrastructure and business environment, and human, cultural and natural resources.

Travel and tourism can be important for economic growth and development in each country. It created jobs in different industries, as well as more indirect development effects.

An example of this may be that the authorities of a region or country chooses to make improvements in infrastructure such as water and sewer, roads, electricity, telephone and public transport, to facilitate tourism. Such measures can also help to improve the inhabitants of the area's quality of life and improve the economy's growth potential.

Some places are tourist attractions of nature reserves or environmentally sensitive areas. Increased awareness of sustainable development among the local population in these areas is essential to ensure a future for further tourist industry in the area.

Some places make national regulation is less attractive to travel to a country. An example of this is complicated visa rules, which can make it difficult and time consuming for tourists and others to bring into the country. If very few tourists bear to go through visa procedures, it is less attractive to develop the travel and tourism in the country.
